Before the pandemic, students could walk around the school, peek into our classrooms, talk to other students. During the time of remote instruction, they don't know us at all!

Students can feel a connection to the instructor before the class begins. It motivates them and calms their fears. Makes distance ed less isolating.

Intake survey helps me set my course content and know if students are going to be using a phone v. a computer for online portions of course. Very helpful.

So of course you would record a Zoom recording of how to navigate Schoology in your case :)

Even if you are using LMS/Schoology just as a support/extra resource and are teaching F2F, this type of video would be good for when they are not in class to help them remember how to navigate. Print instructions are not as effective.

Welcome video could also be sent to students via email for inperson! Really helpful!

Chris has had great success having her low beginning ESL students learning online. They use the LMS and Google Docs, Slides, and Zoom. They can do it!

Baby steps, though... Don't overwhelm the students. One new skill at a time.

Captions for videos - actually the law - 508 compliance.

Zoom recordings do this.

I love the idea of using an LMS for communication and sharing resources even for in-person classes.

Welcome video might also be a great idea for advisors and counselors, including the type of topics where they could offer assistance.

I like being able to pause and rehear when I am in an online class. I love when the teachers post videos.
