Building on what one knows

Students feeling connected to their instructors, classmates and educational systems over time because lessons are relevant to their daily lives.

Deeper engagement by the adult learner occurs when relevant curriculum is presented with patience and progress is marked and celebrated in calm but steady cadence

Engagement comes down to the assessment of a student's learning style, needs, and the ability to being a driver of their own educational journey.

Collaboration, teamwork.

Adult students exhibit critical thinking skills and resourcefulness to make meanings of the information and synthesize. Eventually become self-sufficient.

Someone who can find a hour or hour and a half a day to study to improve their career

Welcoming the students and making them feel that the classroom has the perfect environment.

Addressing the importance of students’ goals and needs

students should own their learning and feel communuity

By building rapport, a sense of community and connections, it makes students feel welcome and comfortable. It also builds trust between the student and teacher and among their classmates as well. They'll realize that their classroom environment is a safe place where they can participate, actively learn and where it's okay for them to make mistakes.

Deeper engagement starts with having compassion and empathy as a teacher. You care not just about their education, but about them as people. In this way, you building community and connections. You deepen meaning for students when you connect what they are learning with their own experiences. By making the topic relevant, you increase their interest in what they are learning. A deeper engagement takes time and patience.
