Student to teacher feedback is more important than teacher to student. Good point to address and review with staff and ask - why do you think this is the case? How will knowing this change what you do in your classroom?
Diana Batista
01:07:41
Comments with no focus might interfere with learning, because student needs to know more specifically and that the feedback is personal to them, not whole class. Instead teacher should comment or praise a specific portion.
Gorence Justin
01:07:41
students want to be given guidance right away but even if it's delayed it's a good thing
Anna Gray
01:07:41
Feedback is about closing the gap between current and desired learning - It lets students know where they are and how they are progressing
Aaron Mendelson
01:07:42
Feedback works when Ss can take it and use it. Why? Ownership is illustrated when Ss can improvise, not just mimic.
Alison Weinreb
01:07:42
Effective feedback occurs when it is received and acted upon. Love this because if our students can't do something with our feedback, and learn a new skill, then it might be seen as a label or grade, and there may be no growth.
OKSANA TARASYUK
01:07:52
It's about closing the gap between current and desired learning. Ties with comments that focus on improvement. It's important to me because this is what I need to learn to do better. I need to find ways to deliver this to students more effectively.
Kim Raynesford
01:08:04
Immediate feedback
Edgar Perez
01:09:53
Prior Learning is the start of feedback. Asking students what they have heard or learned about a particular topic is usually my introduction to a new topic. It helps the students to start to focus on the new topic and start to reflect back on what they have learned about it.
Dave Coleman
01:10:01
@Dana: Powerful application ideas. It raises the question of using good questions. I think of my friend...
Dana Carter
01:11:18
@Diana great point because often students may feel general feedback is not directed to them where specific feedback clearly applies to them
Dave Coleman
01:11:54
@Oksana, closing the gap is tied to the leveling up idea. I appreciate your desire to try to do this better with students!
Kim Raynesford
01:12:08
@Aaron, ownership-yes, that seems key. Applying the feedback and using in a different situation shows they've really understood.
Gorence Justin
01:12:15
@edgar perez yes, it's essential to access prior learning as the gateway to the current topic. it also engages students in an organic way.
Francisco Narciso
01:12:23
@ Oksana. I like that you chose this. This shows that it’s important for teachers to really know their students… their desired learning and their current learning. Thank you.
Aaron Mendelson
01:12:32
@Alison, "Effective feedback occurs when it is received and acted upon. Love this because if our students can't do something with our feedback, and learn a new skill, then it might be seen as a label or grade, and there may be no growth." I agree, Alison. This one jumped out at me as well.
Alison Weinreb
01:13:13
@Dana I think your question is great for all Pd! How will knowing this change what you do?
Valenzuela, Katherine
01:14:31
When you comment on students work, it really helps and motivates them to continue moving forward and to higher level and processing the subject matter. Immediate gratification makes the student feel proud and validate their work.
Kim Raynesford
01:14:59
@ Dave, How did you get all faculty on board with using this feedback culture? Any particular training you all did, Hatie's book, and __?_. I'm intrigued, but need more grounding and wondering if more faculty working together at the school I'm at could implement something like this.
Sofia Mayoral
